Antique French Renoleau Faience Pear Lidded Bird Soup Tureen With Platter

A superb antique French majolica faience lidded soup tureen with a charming pear finial and matching underplate charger, circa 1930. Maker's mark on reverse of platter. From the pottery in Angouleme, France established by Alfred Renoleau. Renoleau was ceramist from the School of Paris and in 1896, established his own workshop in Angouleme. This set has the mark Roullet Renoleau Angouleme which indicates these pieces were crafted in his workshop by his nephew Joseph Roullet, circa 1930. The pattern is known as the “Bleu a l’Oiseau” or “bird of blue”. This rare 3 piece tureen set is decorated with scroll handles, scalloped edges, fine hand painted birds, flowers, and leaves in vibrant blue, yellow, and green colors. It displays beautifully and would make a stunning centerpiece on a table or buffet.
